USD is seeking two to three (2-3) Mechanical/Electrical/Software Engineering Interns to work directly with our product development and operations teams. Our Interns are responsible for our 3D print farm, modeling artistic and CAD objects and programming our new and existing IoT android (InMoov and Poppy) projects.

Our Mechanical/Electrical/Software Engineering Interns will also have two unique opportunities:

Participating in an enterprise software development build. Interns will have the opportunity to work with our Business Analysts to actively define the requirements for an application in JIRA and Confluence. Throughout the development of the project interns will be able to verify their requirements are translated into the application by learning Quality Assurance techniques.
Participating in the creation of an experimental IoT build. The Intern team will develop a real-world project including fabrication and basic programming.
The 2020/2021 class will create a self-guided and turbine propelled watercraft to map bodies of water using LiDAR, sonar and ultrasonic sensors; while collecting samples for shore testing.


  • Initiate and manage prints for 3D printer farm.
  • Maintain and repair 3D printers as necessary.
  • Model and create 3D objects to print for clients.
  • Program and maintain 3D printed robots.
  • Assist in hardware and network testing and maintenance.
  • Assist in QA testing of software development builds.


  • 3D printer operation.
  • 3D modeling design.
  • Robotic programming principles (Java and Python).
  • Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) process.
  • Project management techniques.
  • Time management techniques.


  • Coursework towards a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Computer Science from an accredited institution.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Master’s degree pursuit preferred.
  • Experience with the use or operation of 3D printers.
  • Experience with Python or JAVA programming.
  • Experience with Arduino or Raspberry Pi programming.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment



  • Hourly wage of $15.00 per hour.
  • Minimum of 20 hours weekly.
  • Maximum of 30 hours weekly.
  • Flexible weekly block schedule.
  • Between 9:00 AM CT – 7:00 PM CT, Monday – Friday.
